For greater precision you might buy a dedicated dB meter. They are freely available as smartphone apps, and could verify whether the output levels are similar while your perception differs. Combined with low distortion, an exceptionally low noise floor, and switchable gain, it performs beyond its price.
Schiit is quite popular but their DACs dont.
